Biology
Forms schools in the day time but disperses at night (Ref. 2, 59157). Is mainly diurnal (Ref. 2, 4, 10616). Feeds on phytoplankton (Ref. 4). Female mouthbrooder, carrying up to about 2000 eggs (Ref. 364, 49805). Dwarf females of only 12-13 cm TL, from (semi-)enclosed lagoons, known to brood eggs or young; tolerant to extreme alkaline waters (Ref. 59157).
