Dorsal spines (total): 12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-13; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 8. Dorsal profile of head steeply sloped; eye relatively large. Preorbital bone slightly narrower than eye diameter. Preopercular notch and knob poorly developed. Scale rows on back rising obliquely above lateral line. Presence of a brown to golden spot at base of uppermost pectoral ray.
