Lives in a variety of conditions ranging from clear, fast-flowing streams to muddy waterholes. Inhabits slow-flowing creeks. Juveniles common in estuaries (Ref. 44894). Most common at low altitude close to the coast. Spawns mainly in late summer and autumn at temperature near 21?C. Feeds on insects, crustaceans and fishes. The newly hatched larvae are apparently swept downstream, as juveniles are commonly found in estuaries (Ref. 44894).
