Inhabits very shallow water of flowing streams, canals ditches and marshes (Ref. 12693). Occurs from completely freshwater habitats downstream to brackish waters of the estuarine zone (Ref. 12693). Prefers areas of considerable plant growth (Ref. 12693). Feeds on zooplankton (Ref. 12693). Not seen in markets (Ref. 12693).
