Interorbital space convex; preopercular angle with 2 or 3 enlarged serrae; upper edge of the operculum convex; nostrils subequal; maxilla reaches vertical at rear edge of the eye. Overall color is dark charcoal gray; pectoral fins pale; pelvic fins blackish.
