Dorsal spines (total): 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-10; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 5 - 6. Last unbranched ray of dorsal fin more or less flexible and without posterior denticulation; second mandibular barbel is well developed and ending at anterior side of operculum (Ref. 27628). Silver or yellow colored on the flanks; a series of 4 to 7 black spots, more or less elongated, sometimes forming a black lateral band above the lateral line; mostly a second dark curved line under the lateral line (Ref. 27628). 28-32 scales on lateral line for specimens of Rwanda (Ref. 27628).
