Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-18; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 20 - 22. Body slender. Scutes (19 to 23) beginning at isthmus (or just behind), very strongly keeled (even at only 1.7 cm standard length). Lower jaw projecting, toothless; no teeth on pre-maxillae or maxillae; second supra-maxilla as deep as maxilla blade and with long slender anterior shaft. Pelvic fin insertion about half eye diameter.
