Dorsal spines (total): 12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 12 - 14. Color: dark brown, bluish gray ventrally. There is a broad white band on the caudal peduncle, often edged anteriorly with black. The pectoral fin base is covered entirely by a black spot.
