Dorsal spines (total): 12 - 14; Dorsal soft rays (total): 18-21; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 19 - 22; Vertebrae: 37 - 40. Resembles B. caudolineata, but the head crest of males is more ridgelike than flap-like, all of the pinstripes of females are broken into dashed lines, and doesn't get as large (Ref. 37816).
