Dorsal spines (total): 9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21-23; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 16 - 19. Close resembles C. melampygus, but lacks blue on the fins, has a large naked area on the breast, slightly more elongate and has often has a bronze to greenish cast with scattered black specks (Ref. 37816). Upper lobe of caudal fin dark (Ref. 48635).
