Differs from its congeners in Balkan Peninsula by the following characters: head length 0.9-1.1 times body depth, 23-25% SL; upper lip not or very slightly projecting; lower jaw with well marked chin, not included in upper jaw; mouth terminal, eye diameter 22-25% HL; 41-44 + 2-3 scales on lateral line; dorsal fin with 8? branched rays; anal fin usually with 9? branched rays; distal margin of anal fin straight; distance between tips of first and last branched anal rays (with fin stretched out) greater than caudal peduncle depth (Ref. 59043).
