Vertebrae: 26. This species is distinct from its congeners by the following characters: D VI + I, 9; A I, 8 (usually); some pectoral-fin rays are branched; cephalic sensory-pore system pattern 2; 2 diffuse to prominent dark spots at the base of pectoral fin; fifth segmented pelvic-fin ray present, usually about 1/10 length of fourth ray; and 6 subcutaneous bars/spots on lower postanal trunk (Ref. 59013).
