Biology
Dorsal spines (total): 4 - 8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-10; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 12 - 15. Other distinguishing features: Ramus of premaxilla long, extending past vertical through anterior border of pupil. Teeth on vomer often long and pungent. Anus always behind ventral tips. Free edge of lower jaw sloping backwards and upwards without distinctly elevating at posterior end. Lips thin. Pit-like pores on surface of head, usually covered by large scale. Body color blue-green, light or dark grey and silvery below.
